If you’re planning to build a gazebo this spring or summer and considered buying one of these expensive gazebo kits, hold your horses!
You end up with much better results if you simply buy a gazebo plan and buy the materials yourself. That way you can modify the gazebo before it’s built to make sure it suits your taste and you will also save a bunch of money.
Yes it takes more time but the end result will be so much nicer.
Also keep in mind that a lot of people buy the same kits, so the whole world ends up with the exact same gazebo – isn’t that boring? I prefer to impress with my own creativity and handy-work rather than buying a pre-baked, plain and boring gazebo everyone has seen a dozen times before.
Sounds easy, but the actual problem is finding a good gazebo plan you can use as a starting point.
The net is full of woodworking plans but none of them are good or work the way they are represented.
If you really want to build a great gazebo, I recommend you buy a pack of woodworking plans designed by professionals. They are very affordable and come with many plans you can use in the future, maybe even for your gazebo chairs and tables.
If you can get your hands on a quality, professional woodworking plan, the rest is straight forward as 1-2-3.
First, take a close look at the blueprint and start thinking about your modifications, if you want to make any. If you want to scale it, this is where you do it. You can add and remove pieces you don’t like and you can change the design of the walls, doors and roof.
Next, make a list of all the materials plus measures you need. We’re going to build our own “gazebo kit”. You can ask at the home improvement store to have the wood cut at the correct measures and even have them put in all the holes you might need.
Lastly, pick a nice sunny morning or afternoon on a week-end or holiday and build the thing! If you planned good in step 1 and 2, step 3 is easy and quick to do. Most people rush through the planning phase. Then they end up with missing or wrong materials and tools and end up driving back and forth between the home improvement store and home.
I hope I could change your mind about gazebo kits.
