In these days of comfortable living, most people opt for covering their floors with something that looks good but is soft too. However, because people are becoming more innovative, they sometimes opt for, “do it yourself carpet” to lower costs for the family. Indeed, with the advent of the carpet tile, this job has become much easier and the flooring can even be changed here and there to cater for the needs of the family.

Of course, whenever new flooring is to be put down some preparation work needs to be undertaken. It is best to remove as much furniture as possible so that everything can be squared off with some marks applied for the squares to be applied properly. Indeed, the center of the room must be marked out clearly because this is where the work will begin. Many people make the mistake of starting along one wall but many rooms are slightly skewed which will take away from the effect particularly if the squares are of different colors. Symmetrical lines always look better particularly when different colors are used.

The good thing about squares is that they do not always have to be glued or stuck to the floor surface. The outside ones can be glued down to hold the middle sections snugly up against each other and if they are all of uniform color then seams will not show anyway. However, floors made with different colored squares must be absolutely straight otherwise the entire look of the room is spoiled. When glue is used, try the adhesives that need only a dot or two on each square or the kind that is made to be moved at some future date when repositioning happens. Repositioning is then made very much easier and this in turn will help with uneven wearing of individual squares.high traffic areas and wearing. If the squares are of different colors then new patterns can be formed every now and then to give a changed look to the room.

For those people who do not have time to undertake this work for themselves, there are experts who do the work very quickly but of course this costs money. Because they do this often, they are faster than the householder and know all the tricks of the trade for sure.

Squares are also a great way to be innovative and artistic while saving cash to boot. What savvy householders do is to buy up end of lines in several colors to have a kind of mix and match look. As long as the finish is all within the same range, including depth of pile, then the floor can turn out to be very interesting. Different piles though will surely make the finished result look strange. What some people do is to put a dark color along the walk way in the room so that dirt is not so easily detectable. But these can be interchanged with squares that have been hiding under sofas etc that get no wear at all.
