Is your life a little more chaotic than you prefer these days? Is stress taking over your morning, afternoon, and evening routine? Is the lack of organization in your home spilling over into other areas of your life?
You might think it’s impossible to tame your morning routine and get a little organization back into the picture but nothing could be further from the truth. You just need a little push in the right direction to help you get started.
Getting Started
This is, by far, the hardest part for most people in need of a serious organizational makeover. The problem isn’t lack of interest or even motivation. It’s simply feeling overwhelmed by the task and having no idea of where to begin.
Don’t look for the perfect place or perfect time to get started. Just begin. Pick a room – any room. Choose a corner. Then begin. Start in that corner and work your way out. Keep going with that one room until it’s organized and de-cluttered and you’re ready to move onto another room.
You don’t have to rush out and buy a lot of tools and equipment to help you get organized (most of the time they simply end up leading to more clutter). You need to get organized enough to know what you need and what will really be beneficial before you go out and start buying things you don’t really need and will never use.
Use What You Have
Zipper bags in various sizes are your best friend when you’re trying to become more organized. They can be used to hold all sorts of items and they fit almost anywhere (including medicine cabinets, drawers, and pantry shelves).
You can store all kinds of things in them and they are easy to label so you never need to worry or wonder about what’s inside. I personally prefer the kind with the slide locks on them so I know, without a doubt, they aren’t going to spill.
The best thing about them though is that they are very cheap ways to organize little things that can become big headaches when left rolling around in drawers or cluttering up valuable countertop real estate. Here are just a few items you can store in these zipper bags:
• Craft supplies
• Office supplies
• USB cords
• Batteries
• Educational box tops
• Barbie doll clothes and accessories
• Game pieces (we store all the pieces of the game in these bags and keep them in the box)
• School supplies
• Small toys (matchbox cars, card games, army men, mini dolls and their pets, etc.)
• Off season pool toys
• Christmas stocking storage
• Off season clothing
• Scarves and belts
• Toiletries
• Electronics chargers
• Spare keys
• Jewelry
• Flash cards
• So much more!
Remember that there are many different sizes. Some of them are even big enough to store blankets, pillows, and winter coats during the summer months.
You can also recycle items such as empty pop bottles, milk cartons, and coffee canisters to store items in. You can even have fun decorating these items so they make great organizational tools without standing out.
A better organized day is a day with less stress. The less stress you have to deal with the more time and energy you’ll have to focus on more pleasurable things in life like relationships.
