It’s always wise to make plans for the future while you’re planning your life as husband and wife. Many couples aren’t fortunate enough to be building their first home together as they are planning their wedding.
No matter what time in your marriage you’re beginning the home building process though it’s important that you don’t simply plan to build your home together but also make plans to build your marriage together at the same time.
Test the Waters First
Don’t just dive right into a major home building project or a marriage without first getting an idea of how hot or cold the situation might be. Take a moment to gauge the temperature and test the waters before you do something that is going to cause you a lifetime of regret.
Decide what’s really important before you make any major decisions about your home plan and/or design. Do so once again before making any changes to the original design – they could cost you in the end if you aren’t careful.
Remember to Merge the Minds
The home you’re building together needs to represent the two of you. While the idea of relegating your guy, or the visual signs of his presence, to the ‘man cave’ area of your home is tempting, he needs to be represented throughout the home.
That doesn’t mean you have to keep the smelly old recliner who lived in for four days when the latest version of Halo hit the market. It does mean that you need to find decorative and style solutions that work for and represent both of you throughout the home.
You’re no longer the only one this house matters to. At least, you aren’t if you really want to make your marriage last.
Expect the Unexpected
If it doesn’t happen, great for you! If it does, however, it won’t be nearly as devastating if you’re planning for it.
Be ready for the off-the-wall need to arise and consider giving your bride-to-be a wedding gift she will never forget by adding a room just for her or a feature that will mean the world to her.
You’ll be building so much more than mere goodwill by doing this. Just remember that you must find a way to make it work within the constraints of your budget.
In the end, it’s all about believing in the end results. When you plan well, it’s like laying a proper foundation. From there, anything is possible. Sometimes the strain of the process is damaging to the marriage. In these cases, it’s a good idea to have a plan for how to get your ex back before you make one of the common mistakes you’ll learn about in this FREE video.
