We tend to always talk about the latest AV receivers and how amazing they are. So many people buy the latest AV Receiver not realising that the speakers they are hooking up to them are insufficient. Don’t worry if this reminds you of youself as it is easy to do.
What you want to do is find the speakers that your new AV receiver will be happy with. Instead of going into the technical details I will just dispense some easy to understand advice.
A just as big mistake would be to go out buy the most expensive speakers you can find. The main reason being that it also works in reverse. You want your amp to be able to drive the speakers at a high enough level so the sound they produce is high enough quality. An example would be if you bought a low range Receiver (may still be a current model just with a low channel output) you would not want to buy the JBL Studio L890 speakers as your receiver just would not have the output to drive them. Now, if you had a mid to high range receiver you would not have any problems with high level speakers such as the JBL L890.
One of the easiest ways is to go to the retailer and listen to the speakers. Even ask if they can hook them up to the same model as your amp. This doesn’t mean you have need to buy the speakers at that place (you may prefer to buy them online cheaper), but the main thing is you can hear them and maybe the sales assistant can give some advice as well. Listen to a few different models of speakers and suddenly you will realise the difference. A pair of speakers that you may have thought sounded great one minute may pale in comparission when you hear a different set. It can be a real ear opener.
So, as you can see, speakers are just as important as the amp when it comes to quality. I have heard the same set of speakers on different amps as well as the same amp with different sets of speakers and they both have a very big range of results. For example, if you own a mid to high range receiever you could check out the JBL L890 review as these would be good speakers for your receiver. Otherwise if you had very high range or a lower range AV Receiver you may look elsewhere.
So, don’t despair, once you find the right speakers your amp will sound as amazing as you first imagined.
