The term veneer refers to a material used on the surface of a wall to provide a different texture and appearance and is also referred to as facing. Faux brick consists of a thin layer of brick and is less expensive to use than standard brick, but still provides the same appearance. This material has all the benefits of brick without the cost.
Facing is a term used to identify the application of a material to a wall surface. This material is often used on both exterior and interior walls. Veneer provides a textured finish and creates a richer appearance than a standard flat painted wall. Both brick and wood are common brick veneer wall.
There are numerous hardwoods used for facing in homes; these woods make it possible to have fine wood materials without the exuberant cost often associated with these materials. It is also common to see plaster or stone as a facing material. These materials provide a very attractive setting and provide some texture to a space.
These building elements are just as conducive to commercial structures as they are to residential structures. When these materials are applied properly it is sometimes almost impossible to tell the difference between facing and the actual material. This is particularly true of wood veneers, where it is often not possible to tell the difference between solid wood and wood veneer.
Veneer brick is often used to create a rustic image, but it also lends itself well to contemporary or classic decors as well. You are not limited to the way this material will look. Using the right accents and other materials you can create any setting you desire.
Veneer is applied in a similar manner to laying tile. The surface the material is going to be applied to needs to be cleaned and then there is mortar spread onto the wall. At this point the brick is set in place on top of the mortar. While the brick is drying, plastic is used to keep the spacing uniform. When the mortar has dried then the brick is grouted.
One decorating accent that this material looks good with is a fireplace. Setting the veneer up around the fireplace provides the image of the chimney running up the wall. This approach also works well to encase a wood burning stove. The right type of brick applied with some plaster can provide the image of an old factory wall and looks particularly well in a ‘man cave’ or a newly created wine cellar.
Natural stone is used as a decorating element in the construction or renovation of a residential or commercial space. The thin brick installation material provides the illusion of being solid brick, but it is much more affordable. Applying veneer is very similar to laying tile and can be done rather easily. This material is great in the use of decorating the area around a fireplace or in a that man cave or wine cellar.
