I have a passion for 12v air compressors, but I also know a great deal about DIY and the tools you need to complete a project. When I was young I saw my parents repairing different parts of the house, I am sure you had very similar experiences. The tools they were using for these projects are the tools we still use today, a hammer for example has not changed a great deal. Now you are all grown up and have just purchased your own home. When you moved in you may not have noticed all the minor repair jobs that the house needed, I know I have missed things in the excitement of house hunting. Most of forget that the home repair are now going to be our responsibilities Now that reality has begun to set in it is time to think about some of the tools you are going to need to keep your house running like a well oiled machine. It is time, to start making that list and purchasing the tools that you are going to need. I hope this helps you start that list.
Hammer
Once you have your tool box the first tool you are going to want to buy is a hammer. A number of different projects can require you to have a hammer, and one of the most useful types of hammer is the claw hammer. The design of the claw hammer is fairly simple, a handle and a head with one end that is flat for you to hit nails with. The backside of the head is divided. The divided end of the head is used to pull out old nails and nails that you may hammer in crooked. Owning a claw hammer will change your life, the hammer will become one of the most used tools in your tool box. You will need this hammer for hanging pictures, making small repairs that require nails and a hammer can even be used to break up those ice cubes into slivers. Your imagination is almost the only thing that will limit your use of the hammer, you can use it in your home or in your garden. It is a vital tool for your tool box and one you need to ensure you have.
Electrical tester
If you need to know if an electrical socket is live you should use an electrical tester. Moving electrical wires or changing sockets in a room can be risky if you are not taking the proper safety precautions. Many people have been injured or killed when they accidentally touched a live wire either with their hand or with one of the tools they were using. Electrical testers also come in handy when you have purchased an older home for checking all the sockets to make sure that they all are functioning properly. The old style cartridge fuses that you may have if you live in an older style home can also be checked with the tester tool. Electrical testers are great safety devices for when you are changing electrical appliances in your home. Making sure there is no electricity running through the wires once you have switched off the circuit breaker is essential before you look to touch the wires. The use of the electrical testing equipment will help ensure you have the safest working environment possible.
Vice grips
Vice grips or locking pliers are a clamping devise that consists of 2 jaws that open by screws or levers. The grips are primarily used to ensure a piece is held in place and not moving about. If you needed to glue 2 things together the grips would be a handy addition as they can hold them in place as the glue dry and the bond is made. Like so many of the basic tool range they are a sensible addition to the home tool box. Rusted bolts and be a pain, they are almost impossible to remove, if you have a set of vice grips they will increase your chances of getting the blot free so you can replace it. They can also be used to hold pieces of wood that need to be glued together until the glue dries but you need to provide a cushion between the grips and the wood to keep the grips from indenting into the wood. Making running repairs to a hose with the water still on is not easy, you do not want the water running from the hole as you attempt repairs, a grip will temporally clamp the hose preventing the water running to the hole so you can make good the repair.
Whilst there are a host of additional tools you may need for home maintenance these standard tools are a great place to begin when building a set in place of home improvement tools.
